Preparing for Back to School

Well, these past days I have been preparing for the kiddos to return to school.  It's been a challenge since funds are very limited.  Today, I had a little over $370 to work with.  With that I needed to fill up the car, buy uniform shirts for Kiddo2, buy clothes for Kiddo1 and buy groceries including lunch items for next week. Here is the breakdown:

$61 for gas
$48 for Kiddo2's school uniform shirts
$99 for Kiddo1's  clothes
$120 for groceries
$36 for lunch (back to school lunch)
$9 breakfast

Total $373

Going out to lunch was not necessary. We had been out all day and the lunch ended up being a good way to enjoy a lunch out together before school starts. I'm happy I was able to  do all I needed to with what I had.

I'm thankful to have made some sales on Ebay and with that will be getting Kiddo1 a book bag, Kiddo2 some shorts for school and Kiddo1 a pair of shoes.

I need to empty our "back to school" jar.  Whatever is in it will go to any lingering school expenses :)

I'm going to be listing through the weekend.  To be "cash only" 100% of the time is our goal.  Its hard but we have come so far already.  I just need to keep my eye on the prize - DEBT FREEDOM!

It certainly adds up quickly. It's nice you had a lunch together. The boys and I do that usually too as our time together gets short during the school year. Good luck on the first day!

It has been a while and oh how life has changed...

In the blink of an eye, here we are. It has been about 4 years since my last post and life has been a crazy wild ride. 2021 was truckin' along and I was starting to get use to my new normal. Kiddo 1 was preparing for their final semester of college. We took a family vacation to Washington D.C. in the summer of 2021. It was full of lots of sightseeing, museums and food! It was a great time. Then August came and Kiddo1's health changed. Very quickly and without a lot of warning came doctor visits, MRIs and ultimately a seizure that severely affected their ability to walk. Multiple Sclerosis was the diagnosis after getting a second opinion just to be absolutely certain. TONS of physical therapy later they are able to walk. Life is not the same. Injections three times a week and pills are now necessary and routine. Kiddo1 went back to complete their final semester of university and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Life, Dad update and America 2021

So it has been 10 months since the pandemic changed how we live. It feels like much, much longer.  Kiddo1 and Kiddo2 are learning from home. It has been a challenge but they have adapted. Mr. Man has had to make changes at his job. His work is pretty stressful and the changes due to the pandemic have only added to his and his coworkers' stress levels. As for myself, change has been difficult on many fronts.  Caring for Dad in this third year was the biggest challenge. It was 7 of us, my five brothers coming from different cities to care for him on a weekly basis, my sister (who had recently returned to teaching) and me. We managed as best we could and did it as safely as possible. Unfortunately, a couple of months ago, Dad passed away. It had nothing to do with the virus and simply the effects of his stroke and dementia that slowly took him. Trying to avoid backsliding into oblivion!

I have not written in a WHILE! I'm so glad school is almost out for summer. You would think I could remember all these expenses like yearbooks, class parties, teacher gifts and field trips. I finally laid it out in a language they could understand..."If we save money by NOT eating out and NOT buying random junk then a trip to DisneyWorld would be possible just about every year!" They were amazed! Now....they know we would not go to DisneyWorld every year but they actually were listening to what I was saying versus tuning me out. LOL! I plan on listing like a mad woman next week.  I need to make some moola in a serious way. Plus, my organizing has gone off track and I need to get it under control again.
